Is Dante's Divine Comedy a good read?

I think that you would have to have good knowledge about the Bible. I tried reading it and realized this and my Biblical knowledge is lacking. There is one thing that I can tell you however; all the stanzas are 3 lines each and it seems like each stanza carries its own idea, so I would say read a stanza, analyze the meaning, read another then analyze, etc. etc. It's not exactly light reading.
